Heavy Excavator Operator

Visa sponsorship

Construction · Auckland, New Zealand · Full-Time · $35 - $40/hr · Visa: Employer sponsored

The Auckland yard behind this vacancy runs a safe, professional and highly efficient scrap-processing operation, and it wants a Heavy Excavator Operator who matches that standard. Day to day you would sit in a 30-tonne tracked excavator, using a shear, a grapple and a magnet, from downsizing structural steel through to loading export containers.

The post is permanent and full-time, with a 30-hour weekly minimum and hours of up to 50 per week. Highly qualified international applicants who are already onshore or ready to move may attract potential AEWV sponsorship support.

Applicants in Harare or Bulawayo should show on the CV which machines, attachments and tickets they have used, then get the CV ready with Build AI CV so a hiring team can see it clearly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cut automotive bodies, machinery and structural steel down to size with the hydraulic shear
  • Sort metals using the grapple and feed plant such as balers and shredders
  • Pile up ferrous metals with the magnet
  • Keep processing lanes tidy
  • Check the machine before each shift and look after hydraulic lines at attachment swaps

Requirements & Eligibility

  • 30-tonne-plus excavator experience in scrap metal yards, heavy demolition or quarries, including direct, confident work with a hydraulic shear, grapple and magnet (essential)
  • Valid NZ Class 1 licence with a WTR endorsement (highly preferred)
  • Sharp spatial awareness around active trucks, machinery and ground staff
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
