An engineering and environmental consultancy in Auckland wants a Health and Safety Lead / Manager to own Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) around the whole New Zealand business and to lead a dedicated HSW team.
Broad senior HSW backgrounds are welcome. The consultancy is an Immigration New Zealand Accredited Employer, so AEWV sponsorship is relevant. The job suits a safety leader who can coach colleagues and talk plainly with senior people. Clear communication is as valuable as technical knowledge.

Key Responsibilities
- Set up and continuously improve HSW systems, processes and assurance that meet legislation and back safe work
- Coach and grow the HSW team
- Liaise with managers, project teams and senior leaders
- Encourage a positive, people-focused HSW culture through learning, engagement and training
- Track HSW performance, covering incidents, hazards, risks and lessons learned, and push it forward
- Look after the key relationships with suppliers, contractors and external agencies
- Keep HSW systems effective, legally compliant and in line with ISO standards
Requirements & Eligibility
- A current New Zealand driving licence
- Consulting, professional services or engineering experience is desirable but not essential
- Experience applying Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) principles and people-centred safety approaches for example Just Culture or Safety II
- At least 5 years of experience in health and safety in a similar role, including dealing with H&S systems, incidents, risk and contractors
- A NEBOSH certificate in occupational health and safety or an equivalent qualification
- Experience with Donesafe or a similar HSW information system
- Good people leadership and coaching, with experience leading a health and safety team, plus exceptional presentation, facilitation and writing skills and good business acumen
